Do Americans "live paycheck to paycheck" or do we spend whatever we take in and then some?
If everyone's income increased by 10% tomorrow and then the next day there was some new tech gadget that was neat and fun but not a necessity, and for which we could buy the hardware on credit with no money down and pay a license fee that was equal to the increased income we just experienced, what percentage of Americans would go ahead and buy the new tech gadget?

- Most people's spending habits are dependent on their expected future income. Only teenagers would spend without an eye on tomorrow.
- Most americans that live paycheck to paycheck just don't go out and spend on needless stuff, they provide for themselves and then their family. Afterwhich if they have money left over they spend it on needless stuff.
- Well lets see.....I don't have a ipod, I have an 8 year old computer, I'm on dial-up, 6 year old cell phone, an old analog tv, basic cable, you tell me.....
- Both... as you described. What you are saying is that we foolishly don't save which is completely true.
