- after dvd its high defination dvd and then the expensive blue ray... and inorder to play the hd dvd your player has to support that inorder to use it.
- HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. They are incompatible formats. Sony is the prime backer for Blu-Ray, with Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer and LG making players. HD-DVD is backed mainly by Toshiba with Microsoft making an external player for the X-Box 360. The HD-DVD has capacities of 15GB and 30GB (single-layer and dual-layer), while Blu-Ray has capacities of 25GB and 50GB for the same number of layers. Capacity = quality of video. The ONLY group to set a format is the porn industry which is putting all of its efforts into HD-DVD, which is likely a bad idea. You see, this format war will be decided on the PC front and not the video front. This will NOT be a repeat of the Beta/VHS wars of the late 70's-early 80's. Only Blu-Ray is available for consumers to install in their PCs. There are at least four different drives on the market already. There are presently NO HD-DVD burners available and no PC players, either.
