Do you buy the latest gadgets or are you "old school"?

Personally, my $40 cell phone works just fine... So does my desktop computer. I see all my friends hassling with all their new gadgets and shouting at operated phone help lines and I just have to wonder what makes them bother with it all... Here's what I'm talking about: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlwJgMm9f3K.uqjYZR_w2sSzxQt.?qid=20070815194119AArxzp3 http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Am0uE9E2Pq3poAYfoqQV1HJo7hR.?qid=20070815213152AATcMc1 http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Akd8MZvxH61XdxItv07IgRu3xQt.?qid=20070815205947AACaGAG People are going crazy with all this crap... and these things are supposed to make life easier!

  1. No, I can't afford to buy the latest gadgets, and most of them don't even interest me. I have no interest in an ipod for example, or those Tivo things, whatever they are. I certainly do not know what WiFi is! *sm*
  2. Its funny if you live in a big city and you look around and realize that, for instance, all the cell phones are a recent development in human history. Try to imagine all the people around you without the omnipresent cell phone that no one can live without. Do you really need to be able to talk to everyone you know when you walk down the street? Its just people convincing other people to buy junk because everyone else has it. Its a wonderful world. All that progress is dripping out my ears.
  3. i guess im old school im still learning to use a computer plus i just recently got a cell phone
  4. I still have an "old-fashioned" 35 mm camera (not digital). I didn't get a new cell phone until my old one died of VERY old age (it was one of the first models). We didn't get "call display" until just recently, though I must say, with a household of 5, and too many unwanted phone calls, it is the best "new gadget" in my opinion. I don't even like new fashion until it's old already! But I do live in a family where the father is VERY high-tech (works on computers for a living), and the middle child (13) is very into fashion. So I'm influenced by the new trends because of who I live with. But I tend to be old-fashioned, and find that good enough most of the time. Like you said, the new gadgets can take too long to figure out. Not worth the trouble (unless someone figures them out for me -- I hate reading instructions!) -- Char
  5. I buy what suites my needs and I shop befor I buy, a good example is the Ipod, it is a technological blunder of Titanic preportions but because it is slim and shiny people buy it, its kind of like chrome rims on a car, they are made to attract stupid people who are attracted to shiny objectsnot to make the car lighter or faster or more fuel efficient but simply be shiny. I thik a lot would go a lot smoother if people just spent time admiring the quality of things then buying the next thing that shows up in a The Hill episode. Look at PS3, it bragged about superior graphics and hardware and all the druelling fans bought one as fast as they can and as fast as they bought it they burned up same with the xbox 360. Sometimes its just simply better to be the underdog.
